No Sugar Sauce

The Ultimate: Sugar-Free Sweet Chili Sauce Recipe

The taste of homemade sweet chili sauce is unique.  A symbiosis of sour, hot, spicy, sweet and salty. What is in it and why should you bother making it at home instead of buying one from the store? The answer is very simple – it does not contain refined sugar, modified starch, potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate.

It also does not contain traces of peanuts, wheat, soy, sesame and fish, as there are traces in the mass production of such sauces. Unfortunately, the sweet chili sauce you can buy from stores contains huge amounts of refined sugar. Often we just don’t realize that we consume a lot more sugar (even more than what’s in our favorite desserts) when we use ready-made sauces and mixes from the store. Read the label – you may be surprised.

If you want to remove sugar from your diet but still want to enjoy your dipping sauces then you are in the right place. It will take you no longer than 15 minutes for this delicious recipe!

  • Remove from the heat, add honey (or sweetener of your choice) and mix well.

Why is it a better idea to make this chili sauce by yourself rather than buying one from the store?

Have you ever wondered how many extra calories and sugar we add to our diet just by including our favorite sauce? The answer is surprisingly high and most of us don’t realise that when it comes to sauce, sugar is often the second or third ingredient, meaning it makes up a large volume of the product. Did you know that most of the sweet chili sauces in the market contain between 40g and 50g of sugar? That is over 10 teaspoons of sugar!

With this simple recipe, you can make your own sugar free chili sauce which contains no more than 0.4g of sugar. More than ten times lower than the ones from the local stores.  It also has low cost ingredients and you can whip it up whenever you want.

Conclusion

There is no difference in the taste. You can regulate how hot or sweet you want your sauce to be. Whichever way you look at it, it is much better to make a sweet chili sauce by yourself which will be sugar free, than buying one from the store.  Plus there’s that sense of personal satisfaction that you’ve made it from scratch!
